Stepping Stone’s OKCPS Teen Parent Support Program

&

Program History

Since the 2020-2021 school year, The Stepping Stone Foundation has paired up with OKCPS to provide an 10 class in-person curriculum that will provide education opportunities focused specifically on teen parents preparing for life after graduation.

Program Details

The goal for this program is to provide educational information focused on the needs and challenges associated with continuing an education or entering the work force as a teen parent after graduation. Each class will cover a different topic with topics ranging from different secondary education opportunities, career trends, applying for colleges and scholarship, care for children while working or attending school, among others. These 10 classes are spread throughout the school year.

Benefits

This program helps add on another layer of support to the great work that the counselors at OKCPS already provide for these students, that is focused solely on students in their situation. It allows a chance for the students to hear from experts in each topic as well as previous teen parents who have been in their shoes and gone through similar situations. In addition by attending 7 out of the 10 classes each student automatically qualifies for a Stepping Stone Scholarships to continue their education after graduation.
